Electronic Prescription System for Kimia Farma
Reimagining Prescription Workflows Through Digital Elegance
Transforming healthcare delivery through a secure and intuitive web-based e-prescription system — designed to replace legacy workflows and empower pharmacists, doctors, and patients alike.
The Background
Kimia Farma, one of Indonesia’s leading pharmacy networks, previously relied on traditional handwritten prescriptions that were inefficient, difficult to track, and prone to human error. Patients carried paper prescriptions from doctors to pharmacies, introducing friction into the healthcare journey and making the system vulnerable to miscommunication and delays. Recognizing the increasing demands of a digitally oriented health service model, Kimia Farma sought to modernize its process through a custom-built digital infrastructure.
The Challenge
The main challenge was transforming an analog workflow into a digital system without overwhelming its users — doctors and pharmacists who were deeply accustomed to manual processes. The new system had to be intuitive enough to require no steep learning curve, yet robust enough to handle structured medical data, prescription traceability, role-based access, and real-time collaboration between medical professionals. At its core, the solution needed to prioritize both speed and security, without compromising compliance or usability.
The Solution
We delivered a custom web-based electronic prescription application tailored for use within Kimia Farma’s pharmacy environment. The system allowed doctors to log in securely, draft and submit prescriptions digitally, while pharmacists could instantly retrieve, review, and print these prescriptions in PDF format complete with dynamic headers. Built-in notifications supported revision requests and traceable edits, while the dashboard enabled smart filtering by doctor, patient, or date. Through clean, elegant UI and focused UX, the platform successfully bridged legacy habits with a future-forward approach — enabling immediate improvements in productivity and clarity.
The Result
The new platform improved prescription processing speed by over 40% and virtually eliminated the need for physical record-keeping. Medical professionals reported high satisfaction with the interface, praising its ease of use and clarity. Communication between doctors and pharmacists became faster and more structured, while the digital archive offered long-term consistency in patient records. With fewer errors, faster service, and higher operational confidence, Kimia Farma’s transition into a digital prescription system became a benchmark of success in health-tech implementation.
